Uric Acid Information

Uric acid is the final oxidation (breakdown) product of purine metabolism and is excreted in urine. Uric acid is a strong antioxidant. In humans, over half the antioxidant capacity of blood plasma comes from uric acid.

Uric acid is usually very good for health, but if it can't be processed by the body, crystals form and may show up as red spots in urine. Saturation levels of uric acid in blood may result in one form of kidney stones when the urate crystallizes in the kidney.
