Urethritis

Urethritis is inflammation of the urethra from any cause.

Urethritis Causes

Urethritis may be caused by bacteria, viruses, injuries, or various chemicals from drugs or other products. People particularly at risk are men ages 20-35, lack of sexual activity protection and other risky sexual behavior as when there is no condom used, std history or contact. Women who are in their reproductive years are also at risk.

Urethritis Symptoms

Men commonly experience the following symptoms:

• Visible blood in the urine (hematuria)
• Burning and urinating pain (dysuria)
• Discharge from penis
• Polyuria - frequent or urgent urination
• Itching or discomfort in the penis or groin area

Women experience the following symptoms:

• Abdominal and midsection pain
• Burning pain while urinating
• Fever and chills
• Frequent or urgent urination
• Vaginal discharge
